Butyl Rubber Sheets
Butyl rubber sheets are also known as isobutyl-isoprene rubber (IIR) in the commercial world. They are manufactured by polymerizing of 98% isobutylene with 2% of isoprene, which is a naturally occurring organic compound produced by many plants. The compound has wide industrial usage due to its remarkable property to retain air and its resistance against any form of deformation due to the extreme heat or weather conditions. These distinguishing features also make it the preferred choice in the automobile industry for inner tube manufacture.
CHARACTERISTICS:
• The IIR has low moisture permeability due to its closely knit molecular structure.
• The same structure is responsible for its excellent resistance against ozone and chemical attack.
• The IIR has got excellent ageing stability making it last long without replacement or repair.
• It has got very high hysteresis.
• It has extremely low levels of saturation.
• It can be used in extremely wide range of temperatures lasting from -45C to +130C.
• The low resilience of the IIR makes it an ideal material for vibration damping.
• It is used with hydrocarbons and oils due to its low resistance.
•
It does not tear easily.
• It is extremely resistant to flexing, abrasion and weathering making it an excellent choice for outdoor usage.
